I’ve always tended to be more of a spiritual kind than of a religious one. Was raised as a roman catholic, attended several catholic schools until late adolescence and even got a religious wedding. My kid was baptised and went as far as receiving his First Holy Communion. In spite of leading me closer to this so-called God entity, all those things only served to draw me apart. The more I was led into the institutional side of it, the more I had all types of insights that made no sense to me.
You see, it made me think what gave priests the right to judge others and to tell society how to behave. As far as I see it, institutionalised religions should focus on helping people relying on their spiritual side. Catholics, Budhists, Muslims, all together they should ONLY concentrate in bringing up the best of us, teaching us that there is a supreme soul watching over and caring, and most of all – loving us as we are, no matter what our options in life are.
Now, are religious institutions doing that ? No way!! Instead, they are instigating hatred against those who have made different social choices. Either against the gay community, rival religious groups or economical agents – and the list goes on. If you look around, one way or another, that’s what we get from “churches” these days.
Well, I certainly don’t like that. That’s not the way I want to raise my kid. Sure, I’m not that perfect that I am able to love everyone. LOL, I do have a couple of particular hatreds targeted to very specific individuals who I feel did me VERY wrong in a recent past. Anyway, as year 2008 closed its door I felt I was able now to move on and let the rotten be happy with each other
.
But the point here is – if we were taught from an early age to focus on the GOOD inside of us; if we felt loved beyond our families and friends; if we were sure we have this father/motherlike entity taking care of us and helping us stand on our feet in times of need, I am totally sure the world would be a totally different place.
Establishing rules of behaviour – at the bottom line that’s the role for law, not for religion. I do have a hard time with some of the commendments that go beyond common sense. I do have a certain difficulty to understand religions that prevent you from taking any personal options you feel you would like to (though I do try to live by the freedom/responsibility axe).
That is why I chose to have this private relationship with Mother. Nothing and no one stands between me and her. We do not need intermediates to speak to each other, and I do feel her living inside and around me. If only societies could get rid of those who stand on their podiums and think they are the ones with a direct communication channel to the allmighty, yeah – this world would no doubt RAWK!
Mmm… not that I’m advocating any kind of violent action towards the institutionalised religious powers. Just wishing that they would see for themselves they are far from providing a good service to their communities and would step down, recognising they are just individual subjective human beings as the rest of us.
Let’s make it simpler. Let’s be happier.
